Kamaru Usman’s pre-fight interview before facing Khamzat Chimaev at #UFC294 | ESPN MMA Megan Olivi talks with Kamaru …
kamaru in 2020 you came to Abu Dhabi on just a couple of days notice you headlined a card you were successful in that one the scenario is a little different this time around but is there still something familiar and a Adrenaline Rush when you do something like this um yeah the adrenaline rush is in a decision he been thinking about it getting a call on a week or two weeks notice and and having to fly halfway across the world acclimate to the time diet properly and get down there that’s the only hesitation but once that decision is made I’m just one of those guys I flip the switch and we get ready to go to war it seemed like to us maybe this was a matchup even before this was made that had been on your mind what do you like about facing a guy like hot no I love it because it’s uh you know it’s it’s for me it’s for my personal Journey as uh as an athlete as a man as a father you know stepping out there and knowing that I I face the biggest baddest dudes during my eror and I was able to put them down that’s something that I I think any man can can relate to and it’s just it’s what an example it is for my my daughter and my future kids you know I saw a video this week I believe it was about 11 years ago this week that you were doing some wrestling with kale Sanderson I know you take a lot of pride in your wrestling accomplishments he’s a wrestler as well we’ve talked about this stylistic match up but how really do you envision it and how much ring do you actually foree it depends honestly I’m I’m not I’m not sure I’ve just kind of been just that fighter in the last you know maybe five six fights that just I let the fight develop the way it does you know I don’t try to force anything or press anything and I and I think those are the moments where you see the most beautiful form of martial arts just letting it flow and so if he wants to wrestle we can wrestle he wants to Grapple we can grapple if he wants to stand a strike we can throw hands as well sir there he is you got two great coaches in your corner and Trevor Whitman and Henry hoof I know that they will have you well prepared but I’ve got to ask you about 185 you said I don’t really know how I got down to 70 or you know if I want to again is this a just right now decision and we’ll see how it goes or can you see middleweight being your future no it depends uh you know after I uh beat um after I I I get through this fight tomorrow I’ll fight for the middleweight belt I’ll take that and and potentially like I said go down maybe take that welterweight one and then uh you know see what the future holds but right now I’m not I’m not mad at where I’m at I don’t blame you Camaro many people say they will do it but you actually step up and do it we can’t wait to see you compete good luck to you have fun out there thanks
